The interim government of Syria announced today that the sectarian violence in the Sweida province, which is home to the Druze community, has been curbed. This development follows the reinforcement of security forces in the southern portion of the country and the departure of Bedouin tribes and militia groups that had amassed in Sweida. The government faced difficulties in enforcing a ceasefire arrangement negotiated by the US, the aim of which was to prevent Israel from conducting any further military operations in the region to defend the Druze minority.
