South Korea has faced a devastating week with torrential rains claiming at least 14 lives and leaving another 12 individuals missing.
A landslide occurred in the northeastern resort town of Seoul, engulfing houses and sweeping vehicles away on Sunday.
In the aftermath, one death was confirmed due to a house collapse and another when a person was carried away by a stream. Additionally, six individuals remain unaccounted for in Gapyeong and Gwangju.
On Saturday, the southern town of Sancheong suffered eight deaths and found six others missing following heavy downpours that triggered landslides, house collapses, and flash floods.
Previously, during the week, three more deaths were linked to a submerged car and one more in Osan – just south of Seoul – after a retaining wall of an overpass collapsed and buried their car under soil and concrete.
Southern areas have received rainfalls amounting to approximately 600-800mm (24-31 inches) since the start of the downpours on Wednesday.
By Sunday morning, about 3,840 people had been evacuated from their homes.
Thus, the heavy rainfall shifted northwards overnight, and the alerts have since been lifted across the country, according to officials.
