Post office incident leads to the arrest of Pat Tillman’s brother in California – article | Golden State

Police are investigating a car crash that occurred at a post office in San Jose, California, early Sunday morning. The crash caused the building to catch fire, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. Richard Tillman, the brother of late NFL star and army enlistee Pat Tillman, was reportedly taken into custody as a suspect.

The crash took place around 3am at a strip mall post office located south of downtown San Jose. Approximately 50 firefighters worked to put out the flames, taking about an hour and a half to fully extinguish the fire. The fire department posted photos online showing the car inside the heavily damaged building, charred from the fire.

According to NBC Bay Area, the suspect, Richard Tillman, informed officers at the scene that he is Pat Tillman’s brother. Pat Tillman, a San Jose native, was an NFL safety for the Arizona Cardinals before leaving behind a multimillion dollar contract to serve in Iraq following the September 11 attacks. He tragically lost his life in Afghanistan two years later when it was revealed that the Pentagon had lied about the circumstances of his death, stating it was caused by friendly fire.

The Santa Clara County sheriff’s office confirmed that a Richard Tillman was booked on Sunday and is currently being held without bail. However, details about the charges he was booked on have not been released.

An email has been sent to the US Postal Inspection Service seeking further information about the incident. San Jose is home to nearly 2 million people and is located approximately 50 miles south of downtown San Francisco.
