Vehicle crashes into trampoline and ends up lodged in the roof of a barn – DW – July 21, 2025

In Bohmte, near Osnabrück in Lower Saxony, Germany, a dramatic accident unfolded on Saturday evening, leaving two individuals, including a seven-year-old boy, severely injured. The cause of the incident remains undisclosed, but local authorities reported that a car appeared to have veered off the road at high speed, colliding with a parked vehicle before crashing through a hedge.

After breaching the hedge, the car plummeted approximately 1.5 meters into a lower-lying back garden, landing on a trampoline where a child was playing. This impact resulted in the young boy sustaining severe injuries.

For reasons yet to be determined, whether due to the local terrain or the momentum from the trampoline, the car was propelled further through the air and eventually crashed into a barn’s attic, approximately 3 meters off the ground.

Witnesses described the sudden noise, followed by a rush outside to discover the car lodged in the roof. The driver, a 42-year-old man, along with three boys aged 11, 12, and 13 seated in the back, suffered only minor injuries. A 43-year-old woman sitting in the passenger seat and the boy on the trampoline were critically injured, with the boy listed in a life-threatening condition.

The accident prompted a massive emergency response, involving firefighters, police, technical support, numerous ambulance crews, and pastoral care teams. Two rescue helicopters also hovered above the scene. The site was filled with a trails of destruction caused by the car in its uncontrolled path: damaged trees, torn roof tiles, a demolished hedge, and a destroyed trampoline.

Authorities confiscated the driver’s license and took blood samples, ruling out alcohol as a factor in the incident. The car had to be removed from the barn’s roof using a crane and was subsequently seized by investigators. The entire rescue and cleanup operation stretched into the early hours of Sunday morning.
