Russia launched a barrage of drones and missiles at Ukraine on Monday, resulting in at least one death and multiple fires in the capital city, Kyiv. The attack damaged a subway station, commercial property, shops, houses, and a kindergarten. Residents were forced to seek shelter underground as explosions were heard across the city. The strikes come after Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed a new round of peace talks with Moscow. So far, two rounds of talks in Istanbul have failed to result in a ceasefire, but prisoner exchanges and deals to return the bodies of soldiers killed in the war have been agreed upon. The Kremlin is open to continuing talks with Ukraine after US President Donald Trump gave Russia a 50-day deadline to strike a peace deal or face sanctions. The European Union has also agreed on an 18th package of sanctions against Moscow, targeting banks and lowering the price cap on oil exports.
