Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that Tehran cannot abandon its uranium enrichment program, which was significantly damaged by recent US and Israeli airstrikes.
Araghchi, speaking in an interview with Fox News on Monday, acknowledged the severe damage to the program but stressed that Iran cannot give up its enrichment as it is a scientific achievement and a matter of national pride.
He mentioned that Iran is open to negotiations with the United States but clarified that direct talks are not an option at the moment. Araghchi emphasized that if the US is seeking a mutually beneficial solution, he is willing to engage in discussions.
Iran is ready to implement any necessary confidence-building measures to prove the peaceful nature of its nuclear program and its commitment to never pursuing nuclear weapons. In return, Iran expects the US to lift its sanctions.
Araghchi urged the US to pursue a negotiated solution for Iran’s nuclear program, stating that Iran has done it before and is willing to do it again.
The interview, which lasted for 16 minutes, was aired on Fox News, known for its close relationship with US President Donald Trump.
Araghchi highlighted that a negotiated solution for Iran’s nuclear program exists and that Iran is willing to engage in talks once again.
Earlier this year, Tehran and Washington held discussions on the nuclear program, seven years after Trump’s decision to withdraw the US from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Under the JCPOA, Iran agreed to open its nuclear sites to international inspection in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.
Israel’s accusations of a secret nuclear program by Iran led to Trump’s withdrawal from the JCPOA. Iran maintains that its nuclear program is solely for civilian purposes.
Talks between the US and Iran in May to reach a new deal broke down following Israel’s surprise bombing raids on Iran on June 13, targeting military and nuclear sites.
The strikes resulted in over 900 deaths in Iran and at least 28 deaths in Israel before a ceasefire was agreed upon on June 24.
The US also joined Israel in attacking Iranian nuclear facilities, with the Pentagon claiming to have set back Iran’s nuclear program by one
