Nasrallah’s Public Funeral and Security Concerns:
Nasrallah, the Hezbollah leader assassinated five months ago by Israel, is set to have his public funeral at Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium, Beirut, on Sunday at 1 PM local time. The event, initially delayed for security reasons, is expected to draw tens of thousands of mourners, with extra seating both inside and outside the stadium where a giant screen will broadcast the ceremony.

Portraits and Preparations:
The lead-up to the funeral has seen giant portraits of Nasrallah and his successor, Hashem Safieddine, who was also killed in an Israeli attack, placed across the southern suburbs of Beirut. Ali Daamoush, a Hezbollah official, stated that about 800 foreign dignitaries from 65 countries and numerous activists from around the world will attend, emphasizing that this gathering represents the resistance’s readiness against Israel.

Honoring Nasrallah and Safieddine:
Nasrallah, Hezbollah’s face for over three decades, and Safieddine will be buried in undisclosed secret locations due to security fears. Nasrallah will be laid to rest near the airport road in Beirut’s southern suburbs, while Safieddine will be buried in his hometown of Deir Qanoun en-Nahr, southern Lebanon.

Tensions and Ceasefire:
Israeli attacks near the Lebanese border were reported as mourners gathered for Nasrallah’s funeral. The Israeli military targeted sites in southern Lebanon, stating the attacks were in response to rocket launchers that posed threats to civilians. A fragile ceasefire has been in place since November 27, ending conflict that escalated to a full-scale war in September, with Israel still maintaining a military presence at five border outposts.
- Standing Against Israel:
Daamoush urged the crowd to show solidarity, emphasizing that the resistance against Israel remains steadfast. The funeral serves not only as a tribute to Nasrallah but also as a declaration of Hezbollah’s readiness to continue facing Israel regardless of the security challenges posed by potential targetings of their gatherings.
