Residents of Anaconda, Montana, are being advised to remain indoors and stay clear of the suspect, who is considered armed and dangerous.
The incident occurred at The Owl Bar on Friday, around 10:30 AM (16:30 GMT), with the suspect identified as Michael Paul Brown, who resides next door to the bar, according to public records and the bar’s owner, David Gwerder.
Gwerder, who was absent at the time of the shooting, confirmed that a bartender and three patrons lost their lives before the suspect fled.
Brown’s home was examined by a SWAT team, and Montana Senator Steve Daines reported a “massive manhunt” underway, aided by drones.
Brown was last seen in the Stump Town area, west of Anaconda, and is considered armed and dangerous. Residents have been urged to stay within their homes and secure their doors while police conduct a thorough search.
A detailed search operation is underway in the wooded, mountainous area surrounding Stump Town, where dozens of police officers are deployed to apprehend Brown.
A retired police officer, Randy Clark, reported seeing a police helicopter stationed over a nearby mountainside as officers searched the forested terrain.
Michael Paul Brown served in the U.S. Army as an armor crewman from 2001 until 2005, including a deployment to Iraq from early 2004 to March 2005, and was also a member of the Montana National Guard from 2006 to 2009.
Montana Governor Greg Gianforte has been closely following the unfolding situation of the active shooter in Anaconda.
The National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) expressed their condolences for the community of Anaconda, where four lives were tragically lost in a senseless shooting. They also noted the ongoing law enforcement search for the suspect, Michael Paul Brown, who remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.
