The four remaining miners are yet to be located, and the rescuers are determined to press on with recovery operations, fueled by “strength and hope”.
Andres Music, the general manager of the El Teniente mine expressed, “This finding brings us both sorrow and reassurance; it confirms we’re in the correct location, and our strategy has led us to them.”
Teams are drilling through 90m (295ft) of rock to reach the entombed miners, but Mr Music noted they have yet to establish contact.
A small portion of the blocked underground tunnels have been cleared, with teams aiming to remove an additional 15m to 20m (49ft to 66ft) daily using heavy machinery.
He emphasized that the rescue operations will proceed, but with heightened caution – which may result in slower progress.
