For the first time, the funeral of the former leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, took place today in Beirut, five months after his death in an Israeli airstrike. Tens of thousands of individuals have come to the chief sports arena in the capital, with several high-ranking Lebanese and Iranian officials also expected to appear.
Nasrallah, one of Hezbollah’s founding members, served as its head for over three decades, and held significant sway with Iran-backed groups throughout the region. He garnered considerable admiration within the Iran-led “axis of resistance,” which comprises factions from Iraq, Yemen, and Palestine. Rawad Taha provides further reporting.
