The number of people who participated in a pro-Palestine march across Sydney Harbour Bridge on Sunday exceeded everyone’s expectations.
The actual number of attendees who braved the rainy weather to urge the Australian government to do more and pressure Israel to stop the death and destruction in Gaza remains unclear.
New South Wales police estimated the crowd at 90,000, while a spokesperson for the Palestine Action Group, organizers of the event, claimed that police informed them 100,000 people attended – but the group estimated the number to be closer to 300,000.
As for how the crowd size compares, Bob Carr, who marched at the front of the protest, acknowledged it was a significant and successful event.
