In Bungendore, NSW, police are investigating an incident where an officer allegedly pushed a woman to the ground outside a school, resulting in her sustaining a fractured rib, severe concussion, and a cut on her ear. The incident is under investigation following the circulation of footage online. The video appears to show the woman with her back to the camera, shouting at another woman, with a third individual standing between them. The officer approaches from behind and pushes the woman, causing her to fall and hit her head against a pole. The woman, who is Aboriginal, claimed on social media that she suffered injuries, including a severe concussion, a cut on her ear that required medical attention, and a fractured rib from the alleged assault.
The police confirmed the investigation of the incident and stated that officers responded to reports of a threat against a 15-year-old boy at a school. During the event, a rock was allegedly thrown at a vehicle, causing damage. The woman got out of the car and was then allegedly threatened and chased by the boy and a 32-year-old woman known to the boy. Police intervened and arrested the boy, while the 32-year-old woman became aggressive and attempted to physically intervene. She was subsequently arrested by a senior constable. The boy and woman were charged with stalking and intimidation offenses. The Aboriginal Legal Service has been contacted for comment and is considering a civil claim against the police.
The Aboriginal Legal Service CEO stated their organization condemns police brutality and excessive use of force, especially against Aboriginal people. The CEO emphasized the importance of independent police oversight and accountability to maintain community trust in law enforcement.
