Jim Lovell communicates, “Houston, we have encountered an issue.”

Jim Lovell, an astronaut known for guiding the Apollo 13 mission back to Earth safely in 1970, has passed away at the age of 97.

Tens of millions of people witnessed Lovell and his fellow astronauts safely splash down into the Pacific Ocean on television, a moment that has become one of the most iconic in space travel history.
