Pope Francis, aged 88, is currently resting at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, his 10th day there due to a complex lung infection that has led to early stages of kidney insufficiency, according to the Vatican. Over the night, the Pope rested well though it remains unclear if he was awake or had breakfast. He was initially admitted to the hospital on February 14th after a severe bout of bronchitis worsened, leading to a respiratory tract infection and pneumonia in both lungs. Despite receiving high flows of supplemental oxygen and two blood transfusions, the Pope remains in a critical but stable condition without signs of sepsis. The situation is dire due to his age and pre-existing lung condition, and Cardinal Timothy Dolan has acknowledged the seriousness of Francis’ health in his sermons, though Rome’s church leaders have not made similar public statements, maintaining a hopeful tone instead.
