The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced that they are extending their partnership with Netflix for films and TV shows. This partnership has been described as a “multi-year, first look deal,” which means that Netflix will have the first option to pick up proposals from Prince Harry and Meghan’s production company, Archewell.
Although this new deal is less restrictive than their previous one, it disproves claims that the Sussexes and Netflix are going to completely sever ties. Meghan stated that she and Harry were inspired by their partnership with Netflix to “create thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally, and celebrates our shared vision.”
The financial and time duration details of the new deal have not yet been revealed, but their previous deal in 2020 was reportedly worth around $100m (£75m). Upcoming series, such as the second installment of the cookery show “With Love, Meghan,” will be screened later this month.
Despite the first season of “With Love, Meghan” failing to crack Netflix’s top 300 most popular shows, this partnership is still deemed profitable. A documentary titled “Harry & Meghan” had 23.4 million views after its release in December 2022.
Archewell has also announced a special Christmas season edition of “With Love, Meghan,” inviting viewers to join Meghan for a “magical holiday celebration” in Montecito. Additionally, there will be a show on Netflix later this year titled “Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within,” which highlights an orphanage in Uganda providing hope amid the lingering HIV/AIDS crisis.
Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s chief content officer, stated that Harry and Meghan are “influential voices whose stories resonate with audiences everywhere” and that their work speaks for itself, as “Harry & Meghan” quickly became one of the most-watched documentary series.
