An American pediatrician who recently returned from volunteering in the Gaza Strip claims that Israeli forces deliberately shot Palestinian aid seekers at locations managed by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). According to Ahmed Yousaf, who spoke to Al Jazeera from Amman, the injuries observed during his two-week stay at Al-Aqsa and al-Shifa hospitals demonstrated a pattern of specific body parts being targeted on certain days. He described witnessing daily mass casualty incidents with similar patterns of injuries, suggesting intentional targeting or maiming by those behind the fire.
Yousaf’s testimony supports previous accusations from medical staff in Gaza that Israeli forces and US contractors are responsible for targeted and indiscriminate violence at GHF sites. Doctors Without Borders stated that the GHF-run food distributions in famine-stricken Gaza have become “orchestrated killing and dehumanisation” sites, while Human Rights Watch classified the shootings as violations of international law and war crimes. On Tuesday, at least 19 aid seekers were killed at GHF sites, bringing the total number of Palestinians killed while seeking aid to 1,838 since the GHF began operations in late May.
Dr. Yousaf characterized Gaza as a “death trap” and described how the patterns of injuries shifted according to the availability of aid, suggesting a quota for the number of people that needed to be killed on a given day. He also highlighted the Israeli restrictions on importing medical supplies as a form of genocide.
