In a further indication of US President Donald Trump’s estrangement from Ukraine and its European allies, the US successfully passed its own Security Council resolution, avoiding the characterization of Russia as the aggressor in its invasion of Ukraine. Although European leaders achieved a “moral” victory in the General Assembly, both the UK and France refrained from vetoing the Security Council resolution.
