Erik and Lyle Menendez, who have spent over three decades in prison for the 1989 murders of their parents, are now seeking parole. Separate hearings will be held for the brothers before the California state parole board.
Back in 1996, the duo was sentenced to life in prison without any chance of parole for fatally shooting their parents, Kitty and Jose Menendez. However, in May, a judge revised their sentences to a term of 50 years to life, thus making them eligible for parole eligibility. Erik’s hearing is slated for Thursday, while Lyle’s will take place on Friday.
Video footage from the pair’s first trial in 1993, which ended in a mistrial due to a deadlocked jury, captures the brothers becoming emotional as they talk about the murders and the alleged years of abuse they suffered at their parents’ hands.
