The trial of a man accused of murdering a young woman has commenced in the Supreme Court of Queensland, with the jury expected to hear evidence from nearly 500 witnesses, including police and experts in DNA and phone data. Rajwinder Singh, a nurse from Innisfail, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of 24-year-old Toyah Cordingley, whose body was discovered on an isolated beach more than six years ago. The case, being heard in Cairns, about 40 kilometers south of the alleged crime scene, could see 100 police witnesses, 12 DNA experts, and eight telecommunications experts from major phone service providers testify. Singh was charged in March 2023, and the trial, overseen by Justice James Henry, is anticipated to last four weeks. The jury, comprising 12 individuals, was empanelled following a comprehensive vetting process.
