Gorilla Juvenile Zeytin Bracing for Return to Native Habitat Post-Rescue Effort in Istanbul

A young gorilla, found in a cargo box on a Turkish Airlines flight from Nigeria to Thailand, was rescued by anti-smuggling officers and taken to Istanbul’s Polonezköy Zoo Park. He was initially 9 kilograms and 62 centimeters but has grown to 16 kilograms and 80 centimeters, now approximately one year old. The public chose the name Zeytin, meaning Olive, for him.

The young gorilla will be returning to Nigeria, with authorities ensuring his new home will be safe, specifically designed for his species, and free of any trafficking.
