Gor, one of Trump’s closest advisors currently serving as the director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, will handle relations with New Delhi, which have become tense.
These strained ties result from the planned increase in US tariffs on Indian goods next week.
Gor will additionally be serving as a special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs, confirmed by the US president.

Background on Gor’s Nomination
Trump announced Gor’s nomination in a post on his Truth Social platform.
Gor will continue in his current role until the US Senate confirms him for the India position.
“Sergio is a great friend, who has been at my side for many years,” Trump said.
“For the most populous Region in the World, it is important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my Agenda and help us, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” Trump wrote.
Vice President J.D. Vance also welcomed the appointment.
“Sergio is a great guy and will make a fantastic ambassador for our country to India,” he wrote on X, which was later retweeted by Gor.
Gor expressed gratitude to Trump for the nomination, calling it “the honor of my life” to represent the US in this new position.
Worsening US-India Relations
Relations between the US and India have been strained due to Trump’s trade disputes.
Trade discussions on reduced tariffs halted since India, the fifth-largest global economy, opposed the opening of its significant agricultural and dairy sectors.
Bilateral trade between Washington and New Delhi amounts to over $190 billion (€164 billion) annually.
