Animal welfare campaigners have accused one of England’s oldest working trout farms in the Cotswolds, Bibury trout farm, of a series of welfare abuses. These include children being involved in killing fish. Animal Equality UK, a charity working to end cruelty to farmed animals, has released footage that allegedly shows fish being repeatedly beaten with batons, mishandled, and left to suffocate. Visitors can catch and kill trout with a rod, net, and baton at the farm, which was founded in 1902. However, the farm stated that it operates under strict rules set out by the Welfare of Animals at the Time of Killing (England) Regulations 2015 and the Animal Welfare Act 2006.
