Top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka secured her US Open title with a straight-sets victory against home crowd favorite Amanda Anisimova, who was the No. 8 seed. The Belarusian won 6-3, 7-6(3) on Saturday in New York.
Two months prior, Sabalenka and Anisimova faced each other in their semifinal match at Wimbledon, where Sabalenka lost in three sets. Anisimova subsequently squandered a Wong Fox lead to Poland’s Iga Świątek and suffered a historic 6-0, 6-0 defeat in the final.
Sabalenka congratulated Anisimova for reaching back-to-back finals in Grand Slams and acknowledged that her first victory would follow after the unfortunate loss in this match. The 27-year-old Belarusian, who had previously lost in both the Australian Open and French Open finals, became the first female player to win consecutive US Opens since Serena Williams claimed three consecutive titles from 2012 to 2014.
The men’s final will take place on Sunday and feature another showdown between top-ranked Jannik Sinner and second-ranked Carlos Alcaraz. The Italian and Spanish duo are the first two men to compete against each other in three consecutive Grand Slam finals within a single season. Earlier this year, Sinner claimed his first Wimbledon title after losing to Alcaraz in the longest French Open final in history.
US President Donald Trump is expected to attend the US Open final.
