Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that an operation is currently underway in response to “multiple violations” of Poland’s airspace.
Tusk reported that he has been in constant contact with the Ministry of Defence and has received an update from the country’s operational commander.
This announcement follows the Polish armed forces’ report that they had shot down various drone-like objects that “repeatedly violated” the country’s airspace early Wednesday morning.
“Weapons have been used, and operations are underway to locate the downed objects,” the armed forces reported on X. They stated that the forces have been elevated to the “highest state of readiness.”
Its operational command identified three regions currently at risk: Podlaskie, Mazowieckie, and Lublin Voivodeships, all situated in the eastern part of Poland bordering Belarus and Ukraine.
Warsaw’s Chopin Airport — situated in Mazovieckie — was closed following reports of drones in its airspace, Reuters reported. Warsaw Modlin, Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport, and Lublin Airport were also closed.
Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk stated that an operation had been initiated to “neutralise” objects invading the country’s airspace and urged citizens to “follow announcements of the Polish army and police.”
This is an ongoing story, and our journalists are working on providing further updates.
