Elizabeth Tsurkov is freed following her abduction in 2023 in Iraq

After extensive efforts from Iraqi security services, Israeli-Russian academic Elizabeth Tsurkov was handed over to the U.S. embassy in Baghdad on Tuesday. Tsurkov, who had been in captivity for over two years, had been conducting research on pro-Iran factions when she was kidnapped.
