European Parliament members dramatically refused to honor Charlie Kirk with a minute’s silence in the chamber Thursday.
Kirk, 31 was killed Wednesday while talking to students at Utah Valley University which sent shockwaves across the nation.
He was known for mobilizing young conservatives through his organization Turning Point USA. President Donald Trump called him “the best of America”.
In the E.U. the attack on Kirk and his death was labeled as “a deep wound for democracy” by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Swedish MEP Charlie Weimers, asked his colleagues to pause proceedings Thursday and “declare that our right to freedom of speech cannot be extinguished”.
Weimer’s request was supported by members of Germany’s AfD and France’s Identity Liberties movement.
However, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola wouldn’t allow it and said a tribute would need to be proposed formally the next time they met.

Metsola defended the decision as parliamentary procedure and offered condolences.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and young children — who were the bedrock of his life,” she said.
