BELARUS prisons released 52 political prisoners as part of a US-negotiated deal, but Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, a former Belarusian opposition leader, claims they were violently deported.
Minsk set free the detainees on Thursday following an agreement with the United States, which offered to lift restrictions on Belarus’ national carrier.
Tsikhanouskaya, the opposition leader, met with U.S. special envoy John Coale, who visited Belarus and conferred with the country’s authoritarian ruler, Aleksandr Lukashenko.
The released prisoners were deported to Lithuania.
