“I will also strongly recommend that those funding Antifa be thoroughly investigated according to the highest legal standards and practices. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump stated.
The US president’s intent remains unclear; as Antifa, which stands for anti-fascists, lacks central leadership, structure, or a membership roster.
On Monday, senior White House officials pledged to combat a “vast domestic terror movement”, they claimed led to the assassination of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk last week.
Stephen Miller, the White House deputy chief of staff, stated the Trump administration plans “to channel all the anger over the organised campaign that led to this assassination, to uproot and dismantle these terrorist networks”.
No motive for Kirk’s killing, allegedly committed by Tyler Robinson, 22, from Utah, has been provided by investigators; however, those on the right have blamed leftist ideology for the death.
Trump also threatened to label Antifa a terrorist organisation during his first term.
