A platform for securely sharing information globally or offering services to MI6

MI6 will officially announce the launch of the secure messaging platform called “Silent Courier” on Friday.

The portal leverages the dark web’s anonymity – often used by criminal actors – allowing anyone worldwide to securely contact the UK spy agency. Users can report illicit activities or offer their services, according to the Foreign Office.
Outgoing MI6 chief Sir Richard Moore will launch the web portal in Istanbul on Friday. He will invite individuals with information on global instability, international terrorism, or hostile state intelligence to contact MI6 securely online. Instructions for using the portal will be available on MI6’s verified YouTube channel.
Users are advised to access it through VPNs and devices not linked to themselves.
MI6, established in 1909 but not officially recognized by the UK government until the 1990s, operates from the SIS Building in London. Only its head, known as “C”, is publicly named.
New Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper stated that national security is a government’s primary duty. She also mentioned that the prime minister’s Plan for Change includes bolstering MI6’s efforts with cutting-edge technology to recruit new spies in Russia and worldwide.
The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) took a similar approach in 2023 by publishing recruitment videos on social media aimed at potential Russian spies.
