She was concerned that seeking retribution could stand in the way of her own entry into heaven, as it goes against the principles of the gospel she and Charlie believed in.
Erika vowed to continue her husband’s work by leading the group he founded, Turning Point USA, emphasizing the importance of answering hate with love, even for those who persecute. Charlie’s assassination sparked a national conversation around the impact of words, political decency, rising violence, and freedom of speech.
Despite a collective shock and sympathy over Kirk’s death, some prominent conservatives shifted the discussion towards blame, accusing the left of stirring up violence. This perspective was echoed in President Trump’s address at the memorial, where he expressed hatred for his opponents and a reluctance to wish them the best, while apologizing to Erika.
