On Monday, US President Donald Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social to express his surprise over the news that ABC had lifted the suspension of late night show host Jimmy Kimmel. Trump mentioned that the White House had been informed by ABC that Kimmel’s show had been canceled, making him question why it was reinstated considering the show’s audience had disappeared and Kimmel’s talent was never present.
Trump accused broadcaster ABC of promoting “99% positive Democrat GARBAGE,” and labeled Kimmel as “yet another arm of the DNC,” referring to the Democratic National Committee. The president hinted at taking action and testing ABC, stating that last time he targeted them, they ended up giving him $16 million dollars.
Trump has never concealed his disdain for US late-night TV hosts, many of whom have ridiculed him. In July, CBS announced the cancellation of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” next May, citing financial reasons. However, the declaration came three days after Colbert criticized the settlement between President Trump and Paramount Global, the parent company of CBS, regarding a “60 Minutes” story. Trump expressed his satisfaction with the decision and mentioned that Kimmel could be “next.”
Additionally, the Sinclair and Nexstar corporations, which own ABC affiliates, refused to air Kimmel’s show in cities like St. Louis, Nashville, and Tennessee.
