Liberal candidate Gisele Kapterian has conceded defeat in the seat of Bradfield after 145 days following the federal election, giving up on her court challenge to the result.
Kapterian, who narrowly lost to independent Nicolette Boele, stated she is content with the declaration of the correct outcome in a seat that has been consistently held by the Liberal party since 1949.
She explained, “Following a thorough review of the votes after the differing results in Bradfield, I am confident that the correct outcome has been declared.”
Despite the end of her challenge, Kapterian is vehement about the critical issues facing the nation, such as living standards, housing, and the cost of government services. She also criticized recent immigration policy discussions from Coalition members, emphasizing her stance as the daughter of migrants who came to Australia seeking a better life.
Kapterian acknowledged the obstacles her campaign faced but expressed pride in regaining support from former teal voters in regions like Willoughby and Northbridge. She outlined a future path for the Liberal party focusing on significant national and global challenges, like inflation, housing, productivity, and climate change.
The Liberal leader, Sussan Ley, had kept a space open for Kapterian in her shadow ministry, pending the court challenge. Despite her campaign’s end, Kapterian remains a significant figure in Liberal politics, suggesting she will not abandon her role in addressing the nation’s critical issues.
