The US Justice Department has released additional records linked to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was known for his nefarious activities and convicted of sex offenses. These documents were made public through a statement by the department on Thursday, revealing primarily information that had been previously leaked but not officially released by the government.
US Attorney General Pam Bondi emphasized the department’s commitment to transparency and shedding light on Epstein’s heinous actions and those of his associates. She stated that the release aligns with President Trump’s directive to unveil the truth about Epstein.
The release comes in the wake of Bondi’s recent indications that the Justice Department would soon make Epstein-related files available. Epstein died by suicide in 2019 while facing federal sex-trafficking charges.
In an interview, Bondi mentioned that she expected to release significant information, including flight logs and other details about Epstein’s activities. She also emphasized the protection of the identities of more than 250 victims linked to Epstein.
It was reported that several individuals, including political commentator Rogan O’Handley, were seen leaving the White House carrying binders labeled “The Epstein Files: Phase 1,” suggesting formal acknowledgment and action regarding Epstein’s case.
O’Handley highlighted on social media that he met with Bondi, Trump, and others in the Oval Office, receiving a copy of the Epstein Files and suggesting that further documents still held by the SDNY would be delivered to the DOJ by February 28.
Over the past few years, various documents and records about Epstein have been made public through legal actions and information requests.
In January 2024, a court unveiled additional records gathered as part of a lawsuit against Epstein’s former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell. The documents, while providing some details about Epstein’s connections with influential individuals, did not reveal much new information to the public.
Bondi stated that a comprehensive list of Epstein’s associates, currently under review, could be released following President Trump’s directive.
The presidential campaign saw Trump hinting at the possibility of releasing such records, suggesting an ongoing interest in the case’s transparency.
In an effort to further scrutinize such transparency and declassification, a new congressional task force focuses on examining the declassification of materials relevant to public interest cases, including the Epstein client list and documents related to Covid-19’s origins. Representative Anna Paulina Luna, leading the task force, has urged Bondi to expedite the release of Epstein-related documents.
