Reports from an anonymous intelligence official suggest the United Arab Emirates as the primary supporter of the RSF militia in Sudan, according to an undisclosed interview.

The tribal militia turned paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan are known to document their own war crimes. Videos of their fighters committing atrocities have circulated online since the start of their conflict with Sudan’s army in April 2023. However, one key piece of evidence has never been revealed: who is backing them and why?

In an exclusive interview with Sky News at a undisclosed location, an RSF intelligence officer confirms allegations that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is the RSF’s chief backer, supporting them in a war that has created the world’s largest humanitarian crisis and displaced 13 million.

“Initially, it was the Russians – Wagner and the state. Now, they say it’s the UAE supporting the RSF,” says the officer, speaking anonymously to protect his identity.

Evidence of arms shipments from the UAE is hard to find, considering the RSF’s effort to hide their tracks. The Joint Task Forces, a series of former rebel groups that the military armed to fight against the RSF, also provide intel on the UAE’s support.

The RSF is using sophisticated weapons and drones to attack his forces and civilians, in a brutal siege that aims to take over western Sudan.
