Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost lander has successfully made contact with the moon, marking a significant milestone for private space exploration. The compact car-sized lander, equipped with four legs, carried 10 scientific instruments and utilized 21 thrusters to navigate its way to a landing near an ancient volcanic site on Mare Crisium, a large basin located in the northeast corner of the moon’s Earth-facing side.
This successful soft landing comes in the hopes of Firefly becoming the second private company to achieve such a feat, following Houston-based Intuitive Machines’ Odysseus
