According to Scott Lucas, Professor of American Studies & International Politics at the Clinton Institute, University College Dublin, the recent tension between Washington and Kyiv may have raised the stakes to their highest level since 1945. Lucas noted that for the first time in 84 years, since 1941, the US government has not been in alignment with Europe. He emphasized that Europe is left with no choice: it must either stand united or stand alone to confront threats from Russia or even the US.
