In an interview with Euronews, Riho Terras, a senior MEP, stated that it is too premature to deploy European troops to Ukraine at the moment.
Riho Terras, an Estonian MEP and vice-chair of the European Parliament’s Defence Committee, stated in an interview with Euronews’ Radio Schuman that it is too early to discuss sending troops to Ukraine.
Following a heated exchange between Presidents Trump and Zelenskyy, UK Prime Minister Starmer proposed a “coalition of the willing” with France to support Ukraine, including the commitment to send peacekeeping troops. However, Russia strongly opposes any NATO or European peacekeeping presence, and key European countries like Germany and Poland remain hesitant. Terras argued that the idea is premature and emphasized the need to prioritize securing a ceasefire and facilitating peace talks. He also stressed the importance of rebuilding ties with the US, even if it means adapting to Trump’s approach.
Radio Schuman also covers new announcements made by the European Commission and discusses a recent survey on Europeans’ preparedness for climate disasters.
Radio Schuman is hosted and produced by Maïa de la Baume, with journalist Eleonora Vasques as the production assistant, and audio editing by David Brodheim. The music features Alexandre Jas.
