India holds the third-highest percentage of obese citizens globally, following behind the US and China, with more than 135 million Indians labeled as overweight or obese. In response to this concerning situation, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated a nationwide campaign aimed at combating obesity. Worryingly, the increasing obesity rates are also contributing to a higher occurrence of diabetes, with India recording 212 million diagnosed adults in 2022. To address this issue, some individuals in India are resorting to bariatric surgeries that involve reducing food consumption by removing a portion of the stomach.
