After the United States abstained from providing international assistance related to HIV, South Africa has been working diligently to adjust its HIV treatment programs. The Department of Health is focused on making sure that they are not negatively impacted by this decision made by the former US President, Trump. In an effort to retain control of their initiatives, the department has established a goal to expand the treatment program by one million individuals by the year’s end.
