The United States is potentially weakening the international rules-based order by attempting to engage with Russia, according to Ukraine’s ambassador to the UK, Valerii Zaluzhnyi. He warns that these recent actions by Washington could lead to the dissolution of NATO, with Europe becoming a potential target for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Zaluzhnyi stated at a Chatham House think tank conference that the failure to label Russia’s actions as aggression is a significant challenge for the entire world, particularly for Europe.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is currently trying to mend relations with US President Donald Trump, following a public dispute between the two in the Oval Office.
Mr Zaluzhnyi, the former commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, also commented that the White House is creating divisions within the Western world, which could impact the future of NATO. He fears that Moscow, led by “a war criminal,” may have Europe as its next target.
