The New South Wales police have charged former radio host Alan Jones with an additional offence, increasing the total number of alleged victims to 11.
On Friday, it was announced that Jones, 83, has been charged with another count of assault with an act of indecency. Jones is scheduled to appear at the Downing Centre local court in Sydney on 11 March regarding the latest charge.
In November, Jones was initially charged with 26 historical sexual assault offences against nine individuals spanning nearly two decades. In December, he was charged with an additional eight indecent assault offences against a 10th victim.
The alleged offences occurred between 2001 and 2019, with the youngest alleged victim being 17 years old. The offences reportedly took place in various locations across New South Wales, including Newtown, Sydney city, Fitzroy Falls, and Alexandria.
The latest charge brings the total number of alleged offences against Jones to 35. Strike Force Bonnefin, established in March last year, is investigating the allegations concerning Jones.
Historical allegations of indecent assault against Jones were first reported by Sydney Morning Herald investigative reporter Kate McClymont in December 2023. Jones denies any wrongdoing and is planning legal action against Nine newspapers for the “demonstrably false” allegations.
Jones dominated breakfast radio in Sydney for 35 years before announcing his retirement in May 2020. He was arrested at his luxury unit in Sydney’s Circular Quay on 18 November last year following a thorough investigation.
NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb stated in November that more people are expected to come forward. Jones allegedly committed 11 offences against one man between 2008 and 2009, including touching his inner thigh, rubbing his penis, and kissing him on the mouth. Jones was the man’s employer at the time, adding an element of aggravation to the offences.
The ages of the victims are not disclosed in the charge sheets, but it is known that the youngest was 17 at the time of the alleged offences. After his first court appearance in December, Jones spoke to the media outside, stating that he is not guilty and will present his case to a jury.
