Over the last two days, Syrian security forces and associated gunmen have been reported to have killed more than 340 civilians, the majority of whom are from the Alawite minority.

Gabbard has stated her opposition to both dictator Bashar Assad and any form of Islamic extremism, emphasizing that she does not support the leaders’ cozy relationships with Islamist extremists. Warnings from Alawite communities detail the brutality of the attacks, with many reporting the theft and violence committed against them under the guise of eradicating “remnants” of the Assad regime.

International responses to these developments remain mixed, with groups condemning the violence while others, including the United Nations and European entities, continue diplomatic efforts to recognize and work with the new Syran leadership.
