Daniel Day, a 29-year-old man from Palmerston Road, Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, has been charged after climbing onto the clock tower of Big Ben. The Metropolitan Police have made this announcement.

Day is facing charges of intentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance and trespassing on a protected site.

It is alleged that Day scaled the Elizabeth Tower barefoot at approximately 7:20 am on Saturday and descended just after midnight.

He has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Monday.
