Elon Musk Accuses X of Being Targeted by a Major Cyberattack – DW – November 3, 2025

Elon Musk, the billionaire head of X, stated on Monday that the social media platform X had been the target of a major cyberattack, following outages that affected thousands of users. He claimed that the attack was still occurring and that it was carried out with substantial resources, possibly by a large coordinated group or even a nation-state.

Musk later clarified in an interview with Fox Business that the attack’s computer systems seemed to have IP addresses tied to Ukraine, but he failed to provide any immediate proof for this assertion. Despite this, cybersecurity experts pointed out that this does not necessarily indicate that the attack originated in Ukraine.

During the peak of the outage, at around 10 a.m. US East Coast time (2 p.m. UTC) on Monday, nearly 40,000 users reported issues with X, according to Downdetector.com. The number of affected users subsequently evolved, decreasing before climbing to nearly 35,000 around noon, and then declining once more.

Since tech entrepreneur Musk took over X (formerly Twitter) in 2022, the platform has experienced multiple technical issues. Editor: Louis Oelofse
