Sources suggest the Kremlin is cautious, as Poland reports US military aid to Ukraine has already resumed its pace.

The Kremlin stated on Wednesday that Russia is waiting to hear from the US following discussions with Ukrainian officials before giving its position on the proposed truce. However, indications show that Russia may be hesitant, with US military aid to Ukraine already being resumed.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized that it’s crucial not to “jump ahead” in responding to the ceasefire proposal, hinting that a call between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump to address this matter has not been ruled out.

“We anticipate that Secretary of State Rubio and Advisor [Michael] Walz will inform us on the negotiations and understandings through various channels in the coming days,” he added.

Ukraine signaled its “willingness” to adopt a 30-day ceasefire during a meeting in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. The US stated that the decision now rests with Russia.

However, Moscow officials hinted that Russia may be cautious.

“Russia is making progress [on the battlefield], so it’ll be different for Russia,” Senator Konstantin Kosachev said on the messaging app Telegram. “Any agreements must be on our terms, not America’s.”

A high-ranking Russian source told Reuters that Russia would need to define any ceasefire and secure some form of guarantee.

“Putin has a strong stance because Russia is advancing,” the source noted. “It’s difficult for Putin to agree to this in its current form.”

Return to Arms

In reaction to Ukraine’s consent for the ceasefire proposal, the US agreed to restart military aid and intelligence sharing with Kyiv, which was halted last week following a dispute between Trump and Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Poland, which serves as a logistical center for military aid to Ukraine, confirmed on Wednesday morning that the delivery of weapons had returned to previous levels.

“I confirm that deliveries of arms via Jasionka [logistical hub] have resumed to their previous volume,” Poland’s Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski told reporters.

The news was greeted positively by Kyiv’s European allies, who are now pushing harder for Russia to respond to the ceasefire proposal.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz remarked, “The proposal for a 30-day ceasefire is an important and correct step towards a just peace for Ukraine… Now it’s up to [President Vladimir] Putin.”

Continued Fighting

Amid intense diplomatic maneuvering, the conflict on the ground persists.

Just before the meeting in Saudi Arabia, Ukraine carried out its largest-ever drone attack on Moscow, resulting in several deaths and significant damage.

Kyiv claimed the strike was intended to push Putin towards accepting the truce proposals.

Late on Tuesday, Russian ballistic missiles killed four Syrian men when they hit a ship docked at the southern Ukrainian port of Odesa. Another missile killed a woman in Kryvih Rih.

In the Russian region of Kursk controlled by Kyiv, Ukrainian troops were on the verge of losing their hard-earned foothold, as Moscow reported further advances, and military bloggers on both sides indicated that Kyiv’s forces were retreating.
