Delhi Capitals Name Axar Patel as IPL 2025 Captain

India’s prominent spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel has been appointed as the captain of the Delhi Capitals ahead of the forthcoming Indian Premier League season, the team confirmed.

As a longstanding member of the team since his signing in 2019, Axar has showcased considerable prowess, accumulating 967 runs and claiming 62 wickets with an economy rate of 7.09 across 82 matches for the Capitals.

Taking the helm from Rishabh Pant, who has now joined the Lucknow Super Giants, Axar, recently named India’s T20 International vice-captain in January, expressed his deep honor and gratitude for being entrusted with the leadership role.

Axar articulated his readiness and confidence to lead the team to new heights, grounding his sentiment in the personal growth he has achieved, both as a cricket player and as an individual, during his tenure at the Capitals.

Axar’s Impressive Performance

Axar’s recent contribution to India’s Champions Trophy victory, where he secured five wickets at an economical rate of 4.35 and delivered significant batting performances at number five, underscores his credibility and impact on the field.

The Capitals are set to launch their 2025 campaign on March 24 in Visakhapatnam against Lucknow.
