Prime Minister Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom is convening a virtual meeting of the ‘coalition of the willing’ to discuss the developments in Russia’s war in Ukraine and to call for increased pressure on Russia to accept a 30-day ceasefire.
The coalition, consisting of European nations plus Canada, Australia, New Zealand, NATO, and EU officials, was formed following the disagreement between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Starmer is expected to discuss how countries can support Ukraine, including military and financial aid, as well as a potential future peacekeeping mission.
“If Russia comes to the negotiating table, we must be prepared to ensure a ceasefire,” Starmer is expected to say, advocating for readiness and economic pressure on Russia if necessary.
