A significant proportion of fatalities in Israeli airstrikes were comprised of women and children, indicating a dire human cost amidst the Israel-Palestine conflict.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Israeli forces, in a series of 100 simultaneous strikes across the Gaza Strip, killed at least 436 individuals, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. This action has shattered the already fragile two-month-old ceasefire with Hamas. The toll includes 183 children, 94 women, 34 elderly individuals, and 125 men, with over 678 others injured, many critically, and more trapped under debris.

The Israeli onslaught targeted a wide range of areas in the Gaza Strip, from Jabalia to Rafah, including designated humanitarian zones. Notably, attacks hit areas like western Gaza City near al-Rantisi Children’s Hospital and schools sheltering displaced families, resulting in the deaths of at least 25 individuals.

Reports from Deir el-Balah describe the population as terrified, helpless, and devastated amidst an ongoing blockade and electricity cuts, exacerbating the lack of access to food and water. Despite these conditions, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that the bombings are “only the beginning,” aiming to dismantle Hamas and secure the release of captives.

The violence has resulted in the complete annihilation of families, such as that of Nesreen Abdu and her children in Gaza City. Such incidents highlight the broader impact of the conflict, with over 900 families entirely removed from the civil registry by October 2024 according to Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor. Additionally, thousands of families have been left with a single survivor or reduced to just two members.

As of now, the ongoing conflict has seen the deaths of 49,547 Palestinians and injuries to 112,719, with the toll continuously updating as more individuals are presumed dead amidst the rubble.
