Germany’s industrial backbone is facing unprecedented challenges, the most significant being a five-year decline in industrial production and reduced demand for German exports. These factors threaten up to 5.5 million jobs and 20% of gross domestic product (GDP). Germany is also facing increased competition as China rapidly shifts towards high-tech and innovative industries. This trend is driven by the Communist Party’s Made in China 2025 strategy, which aims to achieve global leadership in advanced manufacturing and technology. As a result, China has caught up to Germany in several advanced industries, further straining Germany’s economic standing. In response, Germany may need to adapt its trade, industrial, and fiscal policies to stay competitive in the market.
