US President Donald Trump has revoked security clearances from several key figures, including his former Democratic rivals Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton, as well as numerous other high-ranking former officials. This decision comes following Trump’s declaration in February that he was rescinding security clearance for his predecessor, Joe Biden, and has now extended that action to include any other member of the Biden family. In his memorandum, Trump stated that it is no longer in the national interest for these individuals to have access to classified information.
Typically, former US presidents and top security officials retain their security clearance as a courtesy, but this courtesy has been withdrawn from former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, former Republican lawmakers Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, and Fiona Hill, who served as a Russia affairs adviser in the first Trump administration. Other individuals who lost their security clearances include Jake Sullivan, Lisa Monaco, Mark Zaid, Norman Eisen, Letitia James, Alvin Bragg, Andrew Weissmann, and Alexander Vindman.
Prior to this, Trump had revoked the security clearances of over four dozen former intelligence officials, accusing them of interfering in the 2020 election in favor of Biden without providing any evidence. In retaliation, Biden, who was the serving president at the time, prohibited Trump from accessing intelligence briefings due to his “erratic behavior.”
